The sacred chant, the yoga mantra, the divine code.

Om or Aum Indian sacred sound. The symbol of the divine triad of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

To the limits of my knowledge, there are 2 methods to pronounce this magic word

1] Om – Here the oooo and mmm are roughly in 1:3 or 1: 4 ratio. For example, if your breath can last 16 seconds, then do 4 seconds and 12 seconds of O & M respectively.

Infact higher the denominator, higher is your respiratory capacity and longer your life (as promised by my yoga teacher). Click below for a demo:

2] AUM – Sanskrit cleaves the Om into A-U-M. This triad represents Brahma (creator), Vishnu (maintainer) and Shiva (destroyer). In accordance each syllable is given equal weightage 1:1:1. So if your breath can last 15 seconds, then 5 seconds each for A,U,M.

Extras: This is supposed to embodify and enhance your functioning style.

A for enthusiastic beginnings,

U for dedicated continuance of quality work and

M for the willpower to carry a task to its desired end.

So irrespective of your beliefs in the trinity of Gods, rest assured that Om will enhance your breathing capacity, build lung power, cleanse the respiratory pathways and empty out residual oxygen to make way for fresher oxygen.
